Later this week, we will welcome our host sister from the home stay family we lived with during training. Beby, who goes by her nickname, just finished high school and is awaiting the results of the national exam to determine where she will attend university. She will stay with us for a week and will, essentially, experience American immersion where we experienced French/Cameroonian immersion a year ago.
We are looking forward to sharing all things American: waffles, macaroni and cheese, tomato soup and grilled cheese, Mexican foods, etc. After her week in “America”, we will post pictures of our time together and let you know which foods she was able to stomach and which just don’t mesh with the Cameroonian palate! Any suggestions on any dishes/meals we will for sure need to make? I am also looking forward to having her teach us how to make a few of our favorite Cameroonian dishes!
But, more than the food, it will be a good opportunity for her to practice her English, watch a few TV shows or movies in English, and see how Americans, let alone an American married couple, interact.
